This is where a professional appliance repair technician can become your best friend. Southwest Appliance Repair of San Antonio has encountered many different types of problems involving washing machines. We would like to share a few of these common problems that we regularly encounter and how you can troubleshoot and determine when you need a repair technician.

Common Washing Machine Problems

Washing Machine Won’t Turn On – When the washing fails to turn on it can be a simple fix or full on repair. Before you assume the worst, check the outlet that gives your washing machine power first. Using a volt or multi-meter, test your outlet and see if there is any power. Sometimes the outlet either burns out or the breaker popped. If this happens, you can reset the breaker, or you may need to replace the outlet. If the outlet is still getting readings, your next step is to check the motor. If the motor has overheated and didn’t have time to cool down before the next load, it will shut off the washing machine completely. Feel the side of the washing machine to see if it is hot. If so, allow it to cool down then try starting the washing machine again. Another common problem for washing machines with the new lid locking system is when the lock is broken, or the senor needs to be replaced.
Washing Machine Won’t Drain – Another common problem is when washing machines don’t drain properly or at all. In many cases, the drain hose is clogged or has an obstruction. When determining the problem with your drainage system, check to see if there is a kink in the hose. Check the drain filter for lint and make sure the drain is secured in the right position. There may be a clog in the home drainage system and not the washing machine. Another problem that will prevent the washing machine from draining is when the drain pump goes out and needs to be replaced.
Washing Machine Leaking Water – When a washing machine leaks water it can be a simple easy fix or a major problem. In most cases, it’s a simple fix. Start by checking all of the hoses and drainage lines for leaks or breaks. The hoses may need a new washer, or if they have hard water buildup, you may to replace them all together. If your washing machine is a front loader, sometimes the seal wears away and needs to be replaced. This is easy to notice as you will see water running out during a cycle.
Washing Machine Won’t Finish a Cycle – When your washing machine stops in the middle of a cycle it’s usually due to one problem: the timer board needs repair. Remove the control panel and check the timer to see if there is any corrosion or scorching. Replace it if it any signs of damage are present.
